A between-session support tool that extends your therapeutic work and provides data on what's actually helping your clients.
You see your client for one hour per week. That leaves 167 hours when they're navigating life without you—practicing skills (or not), maintaining momentum (or losing it), applying what you've discussed (or forgetting).
Mirror Compass bridges that gap. It's not a replacement for therapy—it's a tool that helps clients apply and practice between sessions while giving you visibility into what's actually working.
Mirror Compass organizes wellness across five empirically-grounded domains: Safety (vagal regulation, threat response), Vitality (energy, physical resources), Purpose (values alignment, meaning), Connection (attachment, belonging), and Flow (engagement, presence). These map onto validated constructs in polyvagal theory, logotherapy, attachment research, and flow psychology.
Unlike correlation-based recommendation systems, Mirror Compass uses causal inference methods (T-learners, X-learners, doubly robust estimation) to estimate individualized treatment effects. We're not asking "what tends to help people like this client"—we're estimating "what will help this specific client given their current state."
The system accounts for current capacity. When a client is depleted, we don't recommend 20-minute meditation—we offer 90-second practices that respect their bandwidth. The recommendation formula includes a burden-weighting parameter personalized to each user.
Federated learning means client data never leaves their device. We update the model collectively without accessing individual records. This addresses both HIPAA considerations and the ethical imperative that healing data should not be extracted for profit.
Not a replacement for therapy. Mirror Compass is designed to support therapeutic work, not supplant it. The relationship between client and therapist is irreplaceable.
Not crisis intervention. The system includes safety protocols and can flag concerning patterns, but it's not a substitute for crisis services. If a client needs emergency support, Mirror Compass connects them to appropriate resources.
Not clinical diagnosis or treatment planning. We recommend micro-practices, not treatment protocols. Clinical judgment remains with the provider.
Not data extraction. We don't sell client data, use it for advertising, or monetize the therapeutic relationship. Our business model is subscription-based, not surveillance-based.
Note: We're building toward serving high-acuity populations including domestic violence survivors and refugees—but they deserve a proven tool, not an experiment. Phase 1 validates with stable populations so Phase 3 can serve those who need it most with confidence.
We're recruiting 10-20 therapists to participate in our Phase 1 clinical validation pilot, launching early 2026.
